NIT is a musical theater operating in the genre of "speechless opera". In its repertoire, the theater turns to myths and fairy tales, anthropological studies and literary classics. By paying close attention to the actor's existence of a musician on stage, the theater allows both the performers and the audience to overcome barriers in perception, to open up to music and to themselves. The author of the project is cellist, composer and director Alexandra Kobrina. NIT is resident of GROUND Solyanka Gallery.
The beginning of the new theater was laid by the piece for six musicians and an actress "Schvankmayer's Dreams" - in it the existence of a musician and an actor on the stage was literally combined. The actress became the viewer's guide to the bizarre world created here and now by six musicians. They either formed a single whole, creating a kind of sound landscape, or revealed their own individuality, appearing as active characters in their world.
The full opening of the theater "NIT" took place on January 26, 2023. Two new pieces made up an integral performance and showed the possibilities of musicians in the field of acting. The dynamic and gloomy "Ritual" was based on the research of the famous anthropologist Mircea Eliade and created a picture of growing up and the division of the worlds following the growing up. And the philosophical "Small yarn" through the images of the three goddesses of fate showed the process of making internal decisions by a person.
My goal is to shift the focus from the instruments to the musician. In my interpretation of instrumental theater, the performer becomes an actor, and the instrument replaces his speech - it allows him to embody emotions, ideas, feelings.
